Impact in Action: Driving Data-Driven Modernization at NASA

 

Seventh Sense has played a leading role in NASA’s Innovation and Continuous Improvement Program (ICIP) — demonstrating how digital innovation, analytics, and automation can transform acquisition operations at scale.

As part of NASA’s enterprise-wide contract closeout modernization, Seventh Sense deployed robotic process automation (RPA) and advanced data visualization tools to streamline the closeout process, enhance transparency, and drive measurable results.

Through these initiatives, Seventh Sense:

​

  • Eliminated NASA’s contract closeout backlog, closing more than 22,500 instruments from FY19–FY22.

  • Implemented Power BI dashboards and analytics visualizations that gave Center Offices of Procurement real-time insight into contract status, aging, and transfer readiness.

  • Reduced pending instrument volume by 45% from 2QFY23 to 2QFY24 — leading to a 19% increase in deobligation volume and faster return of excess funds.

  • Enhanced data accuracy, resulting in an 85% decrease in the use of generic “unknown status” codes across the enterprise.

  • Cleared $26.4M in cancelling funds from nearly 700 instruments between FY21–FY23, ensuring no funds were lost due to expiration.

By combining federal acquisition expertise, process automation, and business intelligence, Seventh Sense helped NASA transform contract closeout into a data-driven, transparent process — freeing contracting officers to focus on higher-value mission work and strengthening stewardship of taxpayer funds.
